Ron served on the SADA committee for 42 years, from 1982-2024. He was SADA’s President, Vice President, Treasurer, Match Secretary, Referee and State Delegate during that time. He was made a Life Member of SADA in 1993.
As a player, Ron played more than 1,500 games at SADA for the Morphett Arms Sports and Social Club. He won his club championship on four occasions. He threw more than 50 180s and won the SADA triples in 1991 and doubles in 2000.
As an administrator, Ron was, in many ways, the reason SADA continues to live on today. His leadership; the countless hours of work he put in as a volunteer; and his passion for SADA, its players, and its history is unmatched.
Ron’s contribution to darts stretched beyond his beloved SADA. He served on the Darts SA committee for 25 years, and was Vice President of Darts Australia. He was the South Australian State Team’s Captain / Manager / Delegate / Referee at the Australian National Championships for 25 years. He was awarded the Australian Sports Medal by the Prime Minister in 2002.
Last year, SADA minted a new award in his name – the Ron Miller MVP – which is awarded in all divisions each season based on a statistical formula approved by Ron himself.
As Ron’s health declined in the last couple of years, he continued to attend our AGM and Presentation Nights, with the support of wife Margaret, and most recently took the microphone to tell us all about the early years of SADA and why 2026 deserves to be a great celebration of SADA’s 75th birthday. He was as passionate as ever.
Ron’s advice on the oche is legendary… everyone remembers what Ron told them.
Our sincere condolences go out to Margaret and his family.
Ron's funeral will be held on Thursday 9 April at 1.15pm in Heyson Chapel at Centennial Park. Or for those who cannot attend the funeral will be live streamed at this link: https://streaming.naoca.com.au/e/37b7e13c-8161-4c04-9b67-86f29e97858d
